Mother’s Day May 13th 2018
Can you believe that it has been over 100 years since Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Mother’s Day a national celebration in May 1914?!
And did you know that it is an Australian who is credited with having started the tradition of giving gifts on Mother’s Day? Janet Heyden, a resident of Leichhardt Sydney, started a campaign in 1924 to collect gifts for lonely aged mothers.
To mark this special day now celebrated annually on the second Sunday in May you could lavish your Mum with flowers, cards or other gifts. But have you thought about giving her something that won’t wilt, collect dust or be thrown away?
As a Mum myself I love nothing more than seeing my kids at their happiest and watching them grow up (even if it is way too fast!) – these special moments are what every Mother should have hanging on their wall or in a frame beside their bed. Here’s one of my favourites from my personal collection….
For the last few weeks we have been inundated with requests for family shoots in the lead up to May 13th as many of our families are preparing to spoil their Mum.
It has inspired us to think about what we can incorporate into these family shoots to make this extra special for Mum and here is what we have come up with…
A great excuse to get outdoors and setting up a beautiful afternoon picnic complete with a rug and food is a great relaxed and candid setting for us to photograph you. It allows you to spend some quality time as a family and make it an afternoon outing. Once we have finished photographing in your favourite outdoor location such as the park or the beach, you will be free to enjoy your picnic setup.
Including your family pets always makes for extra special photos. Snuggling up with your furry friend or taking a relaxing walk gives us some great shots and a chance for you to get outdoors and make the most of this beautiful Autumn weather.
For new Dad’s or Dad’s to be out there, Mum will love nothing more than newborn photos or maternity photos in the comfort of your home. Surprise her with an indoor session and a pamper session to get her hair styled beforehand. Or for a very special surprise – have some photos taken of just Dad and bub while you send her for a massage or pamper session.
Take Mum for a lovely Sydney harbour lunch or breakfast in the Blue Mountains and have us meet you beforehand or afterwards. Get dressed up and we can take the time to explore some of the local area close by and take some candid lifestyle photos.
Don’t forget about your extended family. Have you ever had a photograph taken with all of your siblings and parents or extended family? Often our Mum’s and Grandmother’s have everything and it is so hard to think of something new to buy each year. Pick a central location for your family or get together after a family gathering at someone’s house. Updating your family photos with those people she loves the most will be one of the most special treasures you can give her.
For those of you who aren’t quite as organised and haven’t thought about your Mother’s Day gift – contact us today to purchase a personalised photography gift certificate that we can express post. They come beautifully wrapped and ready to gift. Call Sarah on 0400 111 904 to chat through your options or click here to send us an email.
