Recently in an effort to push myself out of my comfort zone and expand my clientele I applied to be a part of the Bathurst Bridal Expo. Eek!
I really enjoyed designing the new albums, ordering the lollipops and personalising them, receiving the new price lists in the mail and then wading through my antique stash to come up with some fabulous props to make my stall stand out. Andrew built me a four post arbour from recycled wood which works so well we are thinking about hiring it (along with some of my props) out for weddings and events.
We traveled to Bathurst on the Saturday to set up and after a few hiccups got underway – it was very exciting to see it all come together. The styling of the stall was certainly different to anyone else’s and we received lots of comments, one of the stylists actually wanted to know who styled it she liked it so much.
Once the crowds started rolling in there was no time for nerves, everyone loved our work and we received lots of positive feedback on the quality of the albums and imagery. Being a part of the AIPP was certainly beneficial as I was asked a couple of times if I was an accredited photographer by some astute brides and grooms. It was great to be able to show off our printed product and to be honest most couples loved pouring through the albums. Many commented on the uniqueness of the woodblock prints and the kids (and most of the adults) loved the lollipops.
All too soon though the day was over!! We certainly learnt a lot from the day and made loads of new friends – I am looking forward to collaborating with some of them on projects and hearing from some of the lovely brides and grooms we met on the day.
